What is Functional Medicine?
Functional Medicine is true health care and healing at its best. Instead of looking at and treating health problems as isolated diseases, it treats individuals who may have bodily symptoms, imbalances, and dysfunctions.
Named diseases are just the tip of the iceberg. Below the surface, according to Functional Medicine, are the real causes health problems.
That sounds logical, right? Treat the cause and eliminate its effect. However, health care today treats just the tip of the iceberg and rarely leads to long-term relief, vibrancy, or health.
Today’s health care system applies a medical management model designed for acute (sudden) health problems which often is unsuccessful at treating chronic (long term) health conditions.
If you have a heart attack or an infection, you want a quick-thinking doctor and access to surgery and medications to treat these conditions quickly. However, jumping in with drugs and surgeries for those with chronic health conditions like arthritis or diabetes often does not treat the cause of the condition which then never cures the disease.
We have an individual-specific approach. Each person has different nutritional requirements.
We start with NUTRI-SPEC® Metabolic Testing. This test utilizes 46 quick and unique clinical tests performed in our office to determine 11 possible imbalances. Next are a comprehensive blood nutritional analysis and hormonal testing. From these tests we can find what is impeding your body from being healthy and what your body is lacking. The findings combined from these three tests allow us to recommend a tailor made program to bring you back into health.
You will not be taking nutritional supplements and/or herbs that make you tired, sick, and plainly do you no good.
Patients only take vitamins and minerals based on their individual test results. They will know what foods contribute the most to their health and those that they should avoid – again based on individual test results. We scientifically monitor each patients nutritional and health needs as they change over time.
After diagnosis and treatment, our patients can expect his or her symptoms to diminish in severity, with a renewed sense of well-being and significant increase in health and vitality.
